Judy Silverstein
Using both film and digital techniques, artist Judy Silverstein creates subtle and mysterious floral portraits. What makes her photography unusual is the intaglio etching process she uses to make many of her prints.
For color work Judy chooses her flowers carefully. "I then observe and live with them for a day or so, looking at them from various angles and in different lighting situations, including at night illuminated only by candlelight.... I want to show the essence or spirit of my subject, not merely create a literal documentary likeness. I look for color, form and gesture and am graced in return with visual poetry."
Judy spent her formative years living and traveling around the world. She now resides with her husband and cats in the countryside outside of Philadelphia surrounded by beautiful forest vistas. It is here that she has a spacious, light-filled studio. Judy has received numerous prestigious national and international photography awards. Her work is shown in galleries throughout the United States.
